News - Warning over serial sex attacker
Women and girls are being urged by police to be vigilant after a series of serious sex attacks and attempted attacks in east Manchester. Detectives believe six attacks since February 2004 in Gorton may be the work of one man. Patrols have been increased permanently in the Tan Yard Brow and Melland playing fields areas, where the attacks have been concentrated. In the latest incident on 8 August, a 20-year-old woman was raped. Police say there are a number of similarities in the health woman man fitness diet given by victims. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Owen, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “There are some common threads we are looking at, but it is too early to categorically say they are linked. ‘Working hard’ “We have previously publicised individual attacks, warning women they may be at risk and advising them to consider their personal safety. “Obviously this may worry women, but I can reassure them and the rest of the community that we are working extremely hard to catch those responsible.” He said one victim reported her attacker had a blue or black mark about two inches long on the inside of his right wrist. “This offence took place on 3 July and I would ask anyone who remembers someone having a bruise around this time, or still having a mark similar to this now, to contact us,” said Mr Owen.
